Passwords play an important role in the context of security. One should pay attention therefore to the correct password formation and use.

In this article, we will give you some hints for creating a "good" password:

Choice of password:

• the password must contain at least 6 characters
• it should include special characters and upper and lowercase letters
• the password should not contain any personal data
• it should not be a word that is found in the dictionary
• the password should never be the same as the user identification. it should not be easily recognized as you type
• the password should be replaced immediately if there is a possibility that it was made public

Good passwords ...

• contain uppercase and lowercase letters
• contain numbers and special characters
• are easy to remember
• ideally consist of 8 characters

Examples of perilous Passwords

• own name (names)
• name of partner, parents, children, friends, etc.
• name of pet
• words from dictionaries
• same letters
• phone numbers and birth dates
• license plates or PIN code
• personal data (eg, zodiac, hobbies, etc.)
• easy sequences (z. B. "qwertyu" or „asdfghj")

Rules for dealing with passwords:

• each user, staff, service, etc. should have an individual password
• passwords should be changed every 3 months or earlier
• given passwords (e.g. the order number) should be changed on the first use or login
• the use of old passwords should be avoided
• do not store passwords on programmable function keys or in scripts
• passwords should not be written down and hidden in the workplace
• password files (on systems) must be especially protected

The use of special characters:
When typing special characters, make sure that each computer on which you enter the password uses the same code table.

Do not type the € sign (euro-sign) in the password, because the login to the customer services area would not be possible anymore and the password would have to be reset.
