This is how you setup DynDNS for your domain

DynDNS is available in all PowerWeb packages and above. You can setup DynDNS for your domains or subdomains in your Customer Service area.

You could for example redirect your domain to your own personal computer at home, if this computer is connected to the Internet.

Possible usage scenarios:

  • Access your personal computer via your domain, while being away
  • Offer your personal files for download through the Internet
  • Provide streaming-media
  • Running a mail server on a company computer

1. Activate DynDNS for your domain(s) or subdomain(s)

Log in to your Customer Service area and choose the corresponding package on the right hand side.

Choose Settings and Domain Administration in the submenu on the left hand side.
You will then see an overview of all your connected domains.

Right next to the domain name and redirection address, you can see icons symbolising which DNS feature has already been configured.

Keep in mind that only those icons are shown, which differ from the default setting.
This means that the DynDNS icon is not shown by default.

If you have however activated DynDNS for a domain, the icon will appear next to it.

You can activate or deactivate DynDNS for a domain by clicking on configure next to it. Now click on DNS administration and Dynamic DNS.

Now activate DynDNS in order to reach your computer through your domain.

Repeat this process for all domains or subdomains you wish to use with DynDNS.

2. Setup DynDNS on your computer

Since your computer needs to inform our DNS server of its current IP-address, it is necessary to install a DynDNS-client on your computer.
There are various programs available, i.e.

DynSite or DirectUpdate

Our DynDNS servers use the DynDNS 2 protocol by dyndns.org to update the DynDNS entry. Your DynDNS client needs the following data to automatically update the IP-address:

  • Server: https://dyndns.strato.com/nic/update
  • Host: The (sub)domain you wish to redirect (e.g..: work.YourDomain.co.uk)
  • User: Any domain inside your package (e.g.: YourDomain.org.uk)
  • Password: Your Master password

Please consult the developers on how to configure each DynDNS client.
