Communicator 4 Premium: Set up and synchronize an Exchange account on a smartphone
E-mail accounts created with the STRATO Communicator 4 can also be used with mobile phones. Premium mailbox users will also benefit from the possibility to set up e-mail mailboxes as Exchange (ActiveSync) accounts. You can now keep your calendar, contacts and e-mails in sync.
This article describes how to set up a Communicator 4 mailbox as an Exchange mailbox on a smartphone. The article also describes how you can create an e-mail account.
The required Android ActiveSync client is only available from the Android version 2.1. The option to synchronize appointments is available from Android 2.2.
This tutorial uses an unmodified Android version. Some mobile phone manufacturers modify the Android version and install their own user interface without ActiveSync support.
Open the e-mail program and click the menu button. Select Add Account and enter your Communicator 4.0 Premium e-mail address.
Enter the e-mail program and click on the menu button. Select Add Account and enter your Communicator 4.0 Premium e-mail address.
In the next step, please select Microsoft Exchange (ActiveSync) and enter the following server data:
Domain/username: your premium e-mail address
Password: your e-mail password
The connection to the server will now be checked.
You can also select how you want to receive your e-mails, and whether synchronization should be performed. By assigning a name to the account, you will have completed the setup.
Set up an iPhone/iPad
Start the device, and then click on the Mail icon to begin the e-mail setup. If you have already set up an e-mail account, please select the settings for mail, contacts and calendar from the menu instead. Now select Add Account.
In the next step, please select Microsoft Exchange (ActiveSync) as the mailbox.
A test will follow to see whether an Exchange mailbox can be applied to your e-mail account. After a successful test, you will need to enter the Communicator server details. The "domain" field is left blank.
Please use the following information for both steps:
E-mail: Your premium e-mail address
Server (only in step 2): com4.strato.com
Username: Your premium e-mail address
Description (optional): Mailbox name
After a successful connection, you can specify how the data communication should take place (e.g. Push for direct e-mail notifications) and if your calendar, your appointments and contacts should be synchronized. This will complete the setup.
Standard Blackberry devices do not offer ActiveSync support.
There are, however, third-party providers who, for a fee, can provide you with ActiveSync for a Blackberry.
Further information about AstraSync setups is available in your Communicator 4. On the Communicator homepage, please click the New button and then select the mobile phone option. Here, you can select Blackberry from the drop-down menu.
Some Nokia devices (such as the E7) and Symbian versions support the ActiveSync protocol; others require the Mail software for use with Exchange.
