Some important rules for .mobi domains:
- Screen width: min. 120 pixels
- Markup Language Support: XHTML Basic 1.1 [XHTML-Basic] delivered with content type application / xhtml + xml.
- Character-Encoding: UTF-8 [UTF-8].
- Image Format: JPEG. / GIF 89a.
- Max Page Size: 20 kilobytes.
- Colors: min. 256 Colors
- Style sheets: CSS Level 1 [CSS], CSS Level 2 [CSS2] (CSS 2 Media Types).
- HTTP: HTTP/1.0 [HTTP1.0] or [HTTP1.1].
- Script: Client-side scripting is unsupported
Generally, the following should be noted:
- Minimal navigation
- Clear link objectives
- No image maps
- No popups
- No auto refresh
- No automatic redirection
- The page size is adaptable but relient on the mobile phones memory
- Information with or without color must be represented
- Background and content must also be distinguishable colours
- Short page title
- No tables unless absolutely necessary
- Text display as an alternative for non-text elements (images/buttons)
- No embedded objects or scripts
- Size of the pictures in markup specifies if they have a specific size
- No pixel-use data or absolute dimensions in the values for the markup language and the values for Style Sheets
- Stylesheets are used, but without a stylesheet the documents must be legible
- Keep small Stylesheets
- If possible, do not use cookies
- Caching data in http
Do not assume that the terminal-based design supports fonts
