After setting up new e-mail addresses for your domain(s) you can configure your e-mail program to send and receive e-mails.
This FAQ explains how this process works with Microsoft Outlook for Windows XP, using the mail protocol called POP3.

Please start Outlook. In the menu bar, click on Tools and select E-Mail Accounts.
You can then choose whether to create a new e-mail account or edit an existing account.
Please click
Add a new e-mail account and then

.
In the following window, you should choose the type of server your new e-mail account will use. Please select the option "POP3" and then click
.
You can now enter the e-mail settings for your POP3 account:
In the first box, please enter a reference name for this account. This will help you to identify this account if you use more than one e-mail address.
In the following boxes, please enter your e-mail address, and the password you chose when you created the e-mail account. The user name information will be seen by recipients of the e-mails you send.
In the server settings boxes, please enter "pop3.strato.com" for the "Incoming mail server (POP3)" and "smtp.strato.com" for the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)." (Deactivate the option: "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA.)
Then click "More Settings".
In the next window, select "Outgoing Server" and activate the option "Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail".

We also recommend activating the option SMTP AUTH (SMTP with Authentication (ASMTP). Select the options “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication, and "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
How to change your e-mail program to use SMTP AUTH (ASMTP)
If you click "Connection" now, you can select the type of connection to the Internet.
If you now click "Advanced", you will be able to select "Leave a copy of messages on the server" or to increase the "Server Timeouts". If the Internet is frequented by too many users, an increased server timeout can occasionally prevent a program abort. In times of high frequency, your e-mail program might not be able to receive the necessary amount of data. If you increase "Server Timeouts", the program will wait longer before it terminates the transmission of e-mails.
When you click
, you will return to "Internet E-mail Settings (POP3)"
If you want to check your settings, please select "Test Account Settings".
Your e-mail program will now try to connect itself to the e-mail server. If you see a confirmation message, your settings were entered correctly.
Now please click
, then
and finally
.
You e-mail account is now completely configured and you can send and receive e-mails.
Note: If you configured more than one e-mail account in your
Customer Login please follow the same instructions for each e-mail account as explained in this FAQ entry.
